Dr John Jennings ARPS from Arnside, who is well known to the club as a regular speaker and judge in the past, was welcomed as judge for the fifth and last of the club’s competitions, which contribute to the main trophies at the end of the season. This took place, as usual, at the United Reformed Church at Halton on Tuesday 4th March. In coming to his decisions as to the order in which the entries were to be place, John gave a thorough briefing as to why he had come to his judgements and it was very apparent that he had taken a lot of time and trouble with his deliberations. He stressed that in some cases his individual preferences as regards subject matter guided his choices but it was evident that quality of image and composition largely won the day.

A full complement of over twenty five members and acquaintances enjoyed seeing an excellent and diverse selection of entries, both in the set subject and in the open categories. The range of entries in each section was fairly constant with a high of 12 in the ‘digital image’ and a low of 8 in the ‘Set prints’. It is always interesting to see the variety of subject matter and there is always much for everyone to appreciate.
